Car Insurance Claims Made Easy With Our Step-By-Step Guide

by Linda William

With the increase in new car sales, automobile insurance policies are one of the most popular insurance products. Thanks to things like app for car insurance, car insurance claims are increasing month after month. However, many policyholders are unaware of how to file a car insurance claim. Here’s a guide on how to do so.

Car Insurance Claim for Owned Car Damage

Here is a step-by-step guide to filing a claim if your vehicle was involved in an unexpected accident:

  1. Inform the Insurance Company: First and foremost, notify the insurance company from which you decided to buy new car insurance online, of the accident immediately by calling their toll-free number or sending an email. You must submit a completed claim form to the insurance provider, together with the necessary documentation, and drive your automobile to the workshop to obtain an estimate of the damaged vehicle.
  2. Inspection: A surveyor will be sent by the insurance company to assess the damages. The surveyor will write a report and forward it to the insurance, as well as provide you with a copy. Your vehicle will be sent to a network garage for repairs based on the surveyor’s report.
  3. Submit Papers: Once the work is completed, you must provide the surveyor with the fully signed repair invoice, payment receipt, and other documents, which will be forwarded to the insurance carrier.
  4. Cashless Claim: If all of the documentation is in order, your automobile will be repaired at a garage in the insurer’s network. The insurance company will then directly settle the claim with the network garage via cashless claim settlement. *
  5. Reimbursement Claim: In the event of a reimbursement claim, you must first pay the garage where you had your automobile repaired, and the repair price will be refunded in your account based on the standard terms and conditions of the policy. Claims are subject to the standard terms & conditions of the policy via the car insurance mobile app. *

Third-Party Car Insurance Claim Procedure

In the case of third-party insurance, follow these steps:

  1. If a third party sends you a legal notice requesting a claim, do not contact the party until you have notified your insurance carrier.
  2. Send a copy of the notice to your insurance company. An app for car insurance can help you.
  3. You must also submit copies of the car’s RC book, your driver’s license, and the FIR.
  4. The insurer will review the paperwork and assess the accident, and if everything is satisfactory, they will select a lawyer for you.
  5. If the court orders you to pay the third party’s damages, the insurance company will pay the third party directly.

Car Insurance Claims Procedure for a Stolen Vehicle

If your car has been taken, follow these steps to make a claim for car theft:

  1. First and foremost, submit a complaint to the police and file an FIR.
  2. Provide the insurance company with a copy of the FIR.
  3. Make a copy of the final police report (non-traceable report stamped by the court) and submit it to your insurance provider as soon as you receive it.
  4. The insurance company will assign an investigator to further investigate the claim. Work with the investigator.
  5. Sit back and wait for the claim to be approved.
  6. Once your claim has been authorized, send the insurance company the RC book from your stolen car. The owner’s name will then be changed to the insurer’s name.
  7. Submit duplicate car keys as well as a subrogation letter. You must also provide the insurer with a notarized indemnification on stamp paper.
  8. Once all processes have been fulfilled, the insurance company will pay out the claim as per the terms and conditions of the policy.
